We investigate the physiology and pharmacology of ion channels in human sperm, using cell biological, protein biochemical, fluorimetric, electrophysiological, and microscopic techniques. We are seeking scientists interested in developing and applying novel tools to unravel the role of ion channels in male infertility and/or in identifying and deorphanizing ligand-binding sites on ion channels in sperm. The project will be conducted in a multidisciplinary setting, i.e. in close cooperation with biologists, chemists, physicists, and clinicians, within the framework of the Clinical Research Unit CRU326 and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research (IZKF).

Required and desired qualifications:

  • Commitment to work in a multidisciplinary setting (required)
  • PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, physics, or similar (required)
  • Experience in techniques to study the expression and function of ion channels  and/or receptors (desired)
  • Experience in the application of fluorescent probes as well as modern microscopy and image-analysis techniques (desired)
