AICD (activation induced cell death) of monocytes

Monocyte activation and differentiation results in pleiotropic effector functions ranging from pro- to anti-inflammatory responses. In this context, activated monocytes may receive signals promoting their survival or cell death. In this project signals that lead to monocytic cell death are examined in our group.

Immunomodulatory functions of monocytes

We characterize the immunomodulatory effects of monocytes in vitro and analyze their role in murine models of experimental colitis in vivo. Differentially stimulated monocyte subsets ameliorate intestinal inflammation and thus confer clinically beneficial effects of monocytes in Crohns Disease. We explore the mechanisms altered monocyte/macrophage functions in this setting.
