Translational Inflammation Research

The pathophysiology of rheumatic diseases can involve highly complex aberrant inflammatory innate and/or acquired immune mechanisms. Especially in diseases that do not primarily result from genetic defects, the disease-initiating cause as well as disease-driving mechanisms are largely unknown.
In this context we focus on
- gaining precise mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis to identify new therapeutic targets and
- use of biomarkers to track inflammatory disease course to predict response to therapy
