Studien zur Therapie des Prostatakarzinoms

Bei manchen Formen des Prostatakrebses liegt ein Erkrankungsstadium vor, bei dem es unwahrscheinlich ist, dass Zeit Lebens eine durch Prostatakrebs lebensbedrohliche Situation eintreten wird. Bei der aktiven Überwachung (Active Surveillance) wird demnach ein Prostatakrebs zur Vermeidung von folgenreicher Therapie nicht operiert oder bestrahlt oder mit einer Hormonentzugstherapie behandelt, sondern lediglich engmaschig überwacht. Dabei werden unter anderem regelmäßig weitere Prostatabiopsien durchgeführt. Wenn sich im Überwachungszeitraum das Prostatakarzinom in eine gefährlichere Form weiterentwickelt, wird dem Patienten dann eine weitere Therapieform angeboten, die den Tumor dann beseitigen kann.
In der PCO-Studie wird erstmalig die Lebensqualität von Patienten mit Prostatakarzinom mit einem weltweit einheitlichen Patientenfragebogen gemessen.
In der PRO-P-Studie wird der Einfluss von elektronisch erfassten Patientenangaben (sogenannten ePROMs = elektronischer Patient Reported Outcomes) nach operativer Therapie des Prostatakarzinoms auf den postoperativen Verlauf untersucht.
