Institute of Translational Psychiatry

The Institute of Translational Psychiatry is embedded in the Department of Mental Health at the University of Münster and currently encompasses two Professorships, seven post docs, 18 PhD candidates, 17 employed student workers, and more than 40 cand. med. students, master-, and bachelor candidates from the faculties of psychology, mathematics and computer science. The institute has published >60 publications in 2019 with a cumulative impact factor of >500 in the fields of neuroimaging, machine learning and clinical psychiatry. Theme and Objectives

The Institute for Translational Psychiatry is dedicated to the identification of biological signatures underlying the onset, clinical presentation, and disease course in psychiatric disorders, particularly affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder) and anxiety disorders. Its mission is the prediction of disease trajectories and treatment outcomes using high dimensional data analysis strategies (AI, machine learning, pattern recognition) based on unique, deeply phenotyped, large scale patient cohorts followed-up over several years, as well as treatment trials. Subgroups within the institute include senior research groups for machine learning/predictive analytics and treatment research/imaging genetics, as well as junior research groups for anxiety disorders, connectome research, clinical information systems/ smartphone based assessments, and longitudinal disease course characterization.
