The Artistic Voice: Bridging Science and Art

Dear members of CoMeT, dear colleagues and friends,

some time ago, together with our CoMeT President, Eugenia Chavez, I invited you to the Annual Conference of the Collegium Medicorum Theatri, which will take place in Münster, Germany, from October 15–18, 2026. We are very much looking forward to welcoming many colleagues and friends to Münster.

We would also like to inform you of an important change to the program: the performance of La Traviata in Münster that had been scheduled for October 15 has been cancelled. Instead, we will begin the conference with a concert at the Münster University of Music, located in Münster‘s historic city center. Afterwards, we will conclude the evening with an informal welcome dinner at Caputo‘s Restaurant.

And now, we are delighted to offer what promises to be a truly memorable opera evening on October 17 at the renowned Aalto Theatre in Essen. We will attend a performance of Das Wunder der Heliane by the celebrated composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897–1957).

We look forward to an inspiring gathering of the CoMeT family. On 16 and 17 October, the scientific program will feature lectures, workshops and discussions on key topics in performing arts medicine and the singing voice. A particular highlight will be the keynote lecture by our Grand Seigneur, Johan Sundberg. An impressive roster of speakers from across our network will join us, and Münster’s vibrant cultural institutions— from theatre to music academy—will actively contribute to the program.

We recommend arriving by the afternoon of 15 October. At 17:30, we will gather at the Münster University of Music at Ludgeriplatz 1 for a 1 hour concert, followed by our welcome dinner at the nice restaurant Caputo’s at Königsstraße 59, about 600 m walking distance from the Music University. A distinctive feature of Münster and the surrounding Münsterland region is its more than 100 moated castles. Accordingly, one of the social highlights will be our conference dinner on 16 October at Schloss Wilkinghege, a former medieval water castle first documented in 1311 and later transformed into a Baroque residence. The evening will include a concert by the internationally acclaimed Cuban flamenco guitarist Reynier Mariño.

On the afternoon of October 17, we will travel by bus from the conference venue to Essen. During the journey, we will enjoy a light dinner served on board, prepared by the renowned Michelin-starred chef Franz Lauter. Upon arrival at the Aalto Theatre, we will receive an introduction to the evening’s performance and have the opportunity to meet representatives of the theatre. During the intermission, we will be invited to a reception featuring drinks and finger food.

The 18 October post-conference day offers optional activities for those staying longer, including guided city tours, museum visits or simply enjoying a walk through Münster’s charming historic centre. We warmly invite you to join us in Münster. We look forward to an engaging scientific program, stimulating discussions and a memorable social experience in a truly remarkable city.
